On Wednesday, October 15, 2008, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the selection of Pickering, Corts & Summerson, Inc. (PC&S) to provide design and construction services for four complete bridge replacements and one superstructure replacement in PennDOT District 5-0 in Berks County.
A major component of PennDOT’s recent bridge initiative, which is aimed to drastically reduce the number of structurally deficient bridges, is to employ Design-Build methodology. This project is a part of PennDOT’s new rapid delivery, design-build package development.
“We have recently completed contractor bid, design-build projects in PennDOT Districts 4-0 and 5-0, and have a comprehensive understanding of the design-build project delivery method,” said John A. Prybella, PC&S President. “We are looking forward to continuing our great working relationship with the District in preparing these five bridges for design-build delivery.”
PC&S will serve as the prime consultant with Orth-Rodgers & Associates to provide environmental studies and structural design support; ASC Group, to perform cultural resource studies; American Geotechnical & Environmental Services, Inc. will provide geotechnical engineering services; and Pinto Engineering will assist with survey.
