3/3/2008
The Delaware Valley Engineers Week Proclamation Luncheon kicked off the festivities for Engineers Week on Friday, February 15th at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia. Charlie DiCello, PC&S Structural Engineer and event committee member, represented PC&S at Friday's luncheon, which attracted a crowd of approximately 150. This year's guest presenters included Governor Edward G. Rendell, Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter, and Dianne Dorland, Ph.D., P.E., 2008 Engineer of the Year.
Additionally, Jim Maloney, PC&S Manager of Transportation-Design, volunteered as a judge for the Future City Competition in honor of Engineers Week. This competition involved teams of seventh and eighth grade students from area middle schools, who accepted the challenge to design the city of the future, using the SimCity program to plan their ideal communities, and construct working models of their cities for judging and display. Engineers Week is celebrated in February of each year to recognize engineering accomplishments throughout the nation. In the Greater Philadelphia region, Engineers Week programs have been held continuously since 1953. The programs are sponsored by a coalition of engineering societies, government agencies, universities, and major corporations which represent thousands of engineers.
PC&S is proud to salute our own Engineers and their 1.6 million colleagues, who promote public safety and help build our nation's economic engine.
