News: PC&S Performs Emergency Underwater Inspection on Birmingham Bridge in Pittsburgh

On Tuesday, March 18th, Pickering Corts & Summerson’s (PC&S) Underwater Bridge Inspection group performed an emergency inspection on the Birmingham Bridge in Pittsburgh, PA.

In late February, the structure was closed to traffic due to movement in one of the Bridge piers. The movement caused the girders to slip off their bearings. The pier that moved was on land, adjacent to the Monongahela River. As a precaution, PennDOT asked PC&S to perform an emergency underwater inspection on the river piers to make sure that there was no evidence of movement on these piers.
