In keeping with the Commission’s overall mission, the design and materials palette for the phase one retrofits were deliberately fashioned to recall the river’s look and feel. The design successfully integrates the technical aspects of storm water management in its aesthetically driven composition and treatment. By removing the redundant drop off road, a new porous pavement car pull off was created and a pedestrian plaza was designed to overlook the extended detention basin. The completed phase 1 retrofits create the new entrance and first impression for the DRBC while providing interesting public spaces and serving a valuable environmental role. This area of site will serve as the introduction to the overall BMP Demonstration Park as the site is transformed in keeping with the facility master plan.
