Client:    PennDOT, Engineering District 6-0
Location:    Philadelphia County, PA
Owner:    PennDOT
Type/Size:    NBIS routine field inspections & reports
Services:    Bridge Inspection

PC&S is currently providing bridge inspection services in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) for PennDOT Engineering District 6-0. The routine field inspections and report preparation will be performed for 413 State-owned bridges throughout the greater Philadelphia metropolitan area.

The PC&S inspection teams are highly experienced in a variety of larger, more complex structures and are familiar with many of the bridges in Philadelphia County, having conducted inspections for the District in 1999 to 2000 and again in 2001 to 2002.

Our crews will provide detailed inspections of the 5,167’ long double-deck Girard Point Bridge, the 8,780’ long George Platt Memorial Bridge and the moveable bridges at Passyunk Avenue and University Avenue. Field operations will be performed using lift trucks and inspection cranes. We make safety a priority during every inspection performed.

The logistics of this project will be a challenge to both our field crews and management due to the heavily traveled highways that the structures carry, including I-95, I-76 and U.S. Route 1. During peak periods, over 60 bridges will be inspected each month by mobilizing up to nine inspection teams.

PC&S will coordinate with State officials to enable our field crews to operate on these high-volume roadways. We will work closely with our traffic control subcontractor to ensure the highest level of safety for both the traveling public and our crews. Extensive coordination with several area railroads will also be required.
