Pickering, Corts & Summerson, Inc. has an experienced and highly qualified structural design staff that provides the specialized engineering necessary for the rehabilitation or replacement of all types of existing structures and the planning and design of new ones. They are well versed in all types of structural design methods including Load Resistance Factor Design (LRFD), which is the more common design method for new construction. To ensure cost-effective development of our structural design projects, we maintain an extensive library of engineering software applications that is regularly updated.
Our staff’s technical competence includes a wide variety of specialized engineering experience including a 459’ long 3-span curved-steel girder bridge that forms the third level of an interchange; a 3-D finite element analysis to design a new 110’ long severely skewed single-span steel through-girder bridge with internal redundancy; and a seismic retrofit of a 4-span, 451’ long welded plate girder bridge using a base isolation system that was one of the first of its kind used in Pennsylvania. In addition, they regularly design more common structure types including prestressed concrete I-beams, box beams, and voided slabs; precast or cast-in-place box culverts, arch culverts, and rigid frame structures; steel beams and built-up girders; and prefabricated trusses.
We Provide:
- New or Replacement Structure Designs
- Structural Repair or Rehabilitation Designs
- Historic Restoration Designs
- Hydraulic and Hydrologic Analyses and Designs
- Seismic Evaluations and Retrofits
