Survey Technician

Pickering, Corts & Summerson, Inc., an award winning, multi-disciplinary engineering/design firm has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic self-starter to join our company as a Survey Technician in our Newtown, PA location.

We are seeking a performance driven individual to prepare engineering and/or surveying drawings and base maps used in civil engineering projects that may include highway, bridge, right-of-way, utility, boundary, topography and site development components.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Correlate, interpret, and perform calculations from data obtained from topographical surveys and site reports.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the surveying work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
  • Perform work that involves conventional surveying practice but may include a variety of complex features.
  • Draft plans and detailed drawings for structures, construction projects, and engineering studies or reports in areas such as highways, bridges, and site developments from engineer’s sketches and direction.
  • Finish and duplicate drawings and documentation packages, according to required mediums and specifications for reproduction, using blueprinting, photography, or other duplicating methods.
  • Evaluate field surveys, inspection information or technical investigations to obtain data required to develop construction drawings.
  • Calculate construction related quantities based on construction drawings.
  • Coordinate with the engineer in determining the order of work and method of presentation for drawings.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • High school diploma and training in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to draw or create maps, diagrams, and profiles, using cross-sections and surveys, to represent elevations, topographical contours, subsurface formations and structures.
  • Evaluate field surveys, inspection information or technical investigations to obtain data required to develop construction drawings.
  • Explain drawings to production or construction teams and provide adjustments as necessary.
  • Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties.
