PCS is proud to announce that our team was a recipient of the 39th Annual Road/Bridge Safety Improvement Awards, presented by the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS), the Pennsylvania Highway Information Association (PHIA), and PennDOT. We received this award for the replacement of the Yost Road Bridge in Whitpain Township, PA.
On this project, PCS provided the structure, highway, civil and traffic control engineering for this $1M bridge replacement. The existing single span bridge was replaced with an at-grade 22’ x 5.5’ single cell precast concrete box culvert designed in accordance with PennDOT standards using a cast-in place concrete deck slab, wingwalls and vertical wall bridge barrier with an architectural surface treatment. Utility coordination involved the relocation of aerial power and communication lines and underground sanitary and water lines.
In addition, the replacement allowed for a sidewalk to be added to the north side of the span to match the existing south side sidewalk. These sidewalks are now continuous on both sides of the roadway linking existing pedestrian facilities on both sides of the project. The sidewalks complete a connection to the nearby public school, private day camp, and residential neighborhoods.
PCS managed the project design tasks and provided survey, plot plans and legal descriptions for township right-of-way acquisitions, permits, plans, cost estimate, bid documents and construction inspection services.
