    President

    John C. Wilhelm, P.E. has served as President of Pickering, Corts & Summerson since 2011. Mr. Wilhelm is involved in all aspects of the firm, and has over 30 years of experience in the structural design and inspection of bridges. He is a graduate of Drexel University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, New York, and West Virginia. John is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE).

    Chief Operating Officer (COO)

    James “Jim” White serves as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Pickering, Corts & Summerson, overseeing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of the company. Jim has been with PCS for over 25 years and is a member of our Board of Directors. He is a PennDOT Certified Bridge Safety Inspector, and is responsible for the administration of all National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) Inspection Agreements.

    Vice President

    Mark Havers joined Pickering, Corts & Summerson in 2002 and serves as Vice President and Manager of Site Engineering. Mark is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Civil Engineering Technology, and Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Landscape Contracting. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, and West Virginia. Mark has been a PCS Board Member for over a decade.

    Richard “Rick” Stanger has been with Pickering, Corts & Summerson for over 25 years and serves as Manager of Transportation Design. Rick oversees the firm’s technical disciplines of structural design and highway engineering. He is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and West Virginia. Rick has been a member of the PCS Board of Directors for over 10 years.

    Vice President

    Aaron Detwiler, P.E. joined Pickering, Corts & Summerson in 2007 and serves as Vice President and Bridge Inspection Project Manager. He has inspected well over 2,000 structures for PennDOT, NJDOT, USFS, DCNR and various Local Owners including the In-Depth inspections and Load Ratings of some of the region’s most complex structures. As a project manager, he has overseen various projects for PennDOT, NJDOT, and the USFS consisting of Bridge Inspection (Routine/In-Depth), Load Rating, Emergency Repair, and Rehabilitation/Replacement. Aaron has managed PCS’ Phillipsburg, NJ office since 2013.

Our History

In 1918, Edward Pickering, Jr. embarked on a mission to provide land surveying services to communities in Bucks County, PA, founding the organization that would become Pickering, Corts & Summerson, Inc.

Professional Surveyors Edward Pickering, III and Howard T. Corts expanded the firm’s services in 1953 by hiring Professional Engineer Gerald J. Summerson, forming the partnership known as Pickering, Corts & Summerson. The company focused on design and construction projects in the Bucks County region.

  • Edward Pickering, III

    Edward Pickering, III

    1910 – 1999

    Mr. Pickering was a graduate of the George School in 1929. He then studied Highway Engineering and Land Surveying through the International Correspondence School. Following his education, he was an apprentice surveyor with Charles Henry Moon, Civil Engineer.

  • Howard T. Corts

    Howard T. Corts

    1917 – 1987

    Mr. Corts attended the International Correspondence School from 1935 to 1937, where he studied Highway Engineering, Land Surveying, and Mapping. He served as an apprentice surveyor for six years with the predecessor firm under Edward Pickering, Jr.

  • Gerald J. Summerson

    Gerald J. Summerson

    1923 – 1969

    Mr. Summerson was a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts where he studied Civil Engineering. He also was a graduate of the US Naval Construction Training Center in Davisville, Rhode Island.
