Pickering, Corts & Summerson completed 45 post-flood underwater diving inspections for PennDOT after Hurricane Ida swept through parts of Pennsylvania at the end of August into the first week of September. PCS completed these underwater diving inspections using multiple dive teams, while still meeting our regularly scheduled PennDOT inspection requirements.
The post flood inspections were conducted in Districts 4, 5, 6, and 8, which included all eastern PA counties, as well as Lebanon, Lancaster, and York Counties. Some storm-affected bridges had defects that required bridge closures, and several more will need future repairs to ensure their ongoing safety.
PCS’ inspection teams included certified underwater inspection divers and professional engineers that worked together around-the-clock to meet PennDOT’s requests as needed. In addition to the diving inspections, PCS certified bridge inspection teams completed approximately 150 additional bridge inspections to assess any potential damage caused by flooding.
