Entry-Level Engineer / Bridge Inspector (Newtown)

Summary:

Entry-level position for the inspection and evaluation of bridges and similar structures using engineering knowledge and skills to determine structural condition in compliance with NBIS, local, state, and federal regulations.


Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • EIT certification (or ability to obtain such) preferred
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD software is a plus
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment to reach mutual goals
  • Ability to navigate in and around bridge structures and may require climbing, wading in the waterways, working from a boat, and working in and around traffic
  • A desire to work both outside (during all types of weather) and in the office (preparing reports)
  • Willingness to travel within PA, NJ and DE
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the inspection of bridges and foundations as required for structural integrity, general safety, and continued conformance to specifications and codes
  • Assist in writing draft reports for review by Team Leaders
  • Assist in the preparation of recommendations, including quantities and costs for repairs to bridges for review by the Inspection Team Leader
  • Assist in the use of inspection equipment, including but not limited to: metering devices, tape measures, calipers, ladders, cameras, probing rods, etc.
  • Review and interpret plans, blueprints, and site layouts to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations
  • Assist in performing Load Ratings to determine Safe Load Capacity and Posting Level for structures inspected utilizing the Load and Resistance Factor (LRFD), Load Factor (LFD), and Allowable Stress (ASD) Design Methodologies
