Early Sunday morning on May 16th, PennDOT shut down both directions of I-95 between Exit 19 and Exit 17 southbound and Exit 12 and Exit 17 northbound after a fire was reported under the bridge at the FDR Skatepark. A wooden halfpipe at the skate park had been set on fire, which fanned flames up to the underside of the bridge.
Engineers from PCS were brought in to inspect any potential damage that may have occurred to the bridge. Theodore A. Tuz, P.E. and Michael J. Willey, E.I.T. performed an inspection of the structure, determined there was no structure damage to the bridge, and all lanes of the Interstate could be reopened to traffic.
